Jr Puppy Class
A group class for our puppy teenagers, from 16 weeks up to 9 months old by the end of the course.
During this group class, we learn and practice on-leash manners like sit, stay, lie down, and walking on a loose leash without pulling. Then we reward all that learning with small group off-leash socialization, running, wrestling and playtime!
Jr Puppies do not need to be spayed or neutered to attend Jr Puppy Class. We will check for an up-to-date rabies vaccination for our first class and all dogs need to be comfortable (no lunging, growling or aggression) around dogs and humans.
What Is Jr Puppy Class?
Every dog is different! 11 year ago we started offering Jr Puppy - a one of a kind group class that pairs obedience training with off-leash socialization and playtime.
Our Jr Puppy classes are led by Nikki Nordick CDBC, whose background in both training and behavior means she understands not just how Jr. Puppies learn, but what they need to succeed. Nikki uses up to date science based techniques and lots of positive reinforcement to help Jr Puppies learn and play together.
What Jr Puppies Learn in Class?
As puppies grow into teenagers, they can often have more energy, more curiosity, and sometimes push boundaries! It’s a normal part of learning and growing, and that’s where Jr Puppy Class comes in.
Each Jr Puppy Class includes time learning and practicing skills like no pulling on a leash, sit, stay, lie down, and relax. To keep learning fun, depending on the group, we also introduce tricks like spin, crawl, and roll over alongside the everyday skills.
Every class includes off-leash time, which can mean lots of good sniffing, running, wrestling, and playtime. Each class also includes homework to practice in between classes.
When Can Jr Puppies Start?
his group class is for Jr Puppies who are at least 16 weeks old as long as they have their rabies vaccinations. The oldest a Jr Puppy can start this class is at 8 months.
These group classes include both on-leash and off-leash time. We do not have a size or weight minimum or maximum. We will divide the dogs into pairs and small groups when playing, but the class is mixed sizes, which means your Jr Puppy could be with dogs smaller and bigger than they are.
Play with Jr Puppies can be exciting and sometimes high energy. If you or your Puppy Pal might be unsure, please contact us before registering.
An important note: This is not the right class for a Jr Puppy who is working to overcome any form of aggression with humans or dogs. If you would like support with aggression, please check out our private training options.
What to Bring To Jr Puppy Class
Please have your dog wear a regular flat collar (not a prong collar or choke chain)on a fixed-length leash (not the extendable or retractable kind) and a variety of treats your dog will love!
How many people can join?
You are welcome to have at most two people join each Jr Puppy Class (and it doesn’t have to be the same people each class!) At least one of the two people has to be over 18 years of age.
